Skippers Secure Day 2 Victory at New Year’s Classic

Port Huron, MI – The St. Clair County Community College (SC4) women's basketball team capped off Day 2 of the Skippers New Year's Classic with an impressive 70-63 win over Grand Rapids Community College on Saturday, January 3, 2026. The victory improves SC4's record to 9-6 on the season.

The Skippers battled through a competitive first half, leading 33-26 at the break. SC4 played an even second half with the Raiders which was good enough to secure the 7-point win.

Key Performers:

  • Myana Cooksey led the Skippers with 25 points and 13 rebounds in just 24 minutes off the bench.
  • Soleil DeJesus added in 17 points on 7-of-14 shooting, also grabbing 10 boards for a double-double.
  • Taylor Wallace contributed 17 points to the Skipper's effort.
  • SC4 dominated the glass, pulling down 45 rebounds compared to GRCC's 33.

The Skippers shot 43.9% from the field and held Grand Rapids to just 33.8%, including a stifling defensive effort in the first quarter where the Raiders managed just 19% shooting.

With this win, SC4 closes out the New Year's Classic on a high note and looks ahead to conference play with confidence.
