Delaware, OH - This past weekend the SC4 Women's Cross Country team traveled to Ohio Wesleyan University to compete in the OWU Invite, which features a 6k event for the women. This slightly longer distance did not hold the ladies back one step! Two broke the school record while 5 girls made the SC4 Top Ten List. The team placed 8th overall out of 12 teams and were the only junior college to toe the line.
Kate Bennett and Brynn Hurley started off hard, leading the team together through mile one. Bennett set a 5k personal record in her 5k split enroute to taking the school record in a time of 24:17.4. Hurley was close behind, finishing in a time of 24:35.7, also breaking the previous school record. Bennett and Hurley placed 31st and 49th respectively. Rowan Conley had a stellar day, running a season best in her 5k split and finishing in 25:15.1. Conley placed 69th and earned her rank on the SC4 Top Ten List, taking the #4 spot. Julia Rogers also ran a season best for her 5k split and finished in a time of 25:32.8, taking 76th place. Rogers is now ranked as the 5th fastest Skipper of all-time. Charlotte O'Brien was the team's 5th runner, coming in 105th place in a time of 27:30.4. O'Brien also earned her spot on the SC4 Top Ten List, taking the #9 ranking. Jenna Denver and Angelina Ross placed 106th and 124th respectively. Denver is moving her way back up, as she was 34 seconds faster at her 5k split than she ran last weekend. Ross performed well, as she was only one second off her season best at the 5k split.
"Lately, I've been having a really bad mindset going into the race – any hill, any sunlight or anything inconvenient would get in my head. The distance of the race was very intimidating. However, I went into it with a good mindset and set a season record in the 5k and went on the top ten list for the 6k, which is something I didn't expect. I'm proud of how my teammates and I ran for running a longer race with 3 times the people than we're used to." Said freshman Rowan Conley
The women race again this Saturday, October 11th at the Jayhawk Invite, hosted by Muskegon Community College.
