Gladstone, MI - This past weekend the SC4 Women's Cross Country team competed at the Bay College Norse Invitational held at the property of The Farmhouse Bed and Breakfast in Gladstone, MI. The course weaved through open fields, woods and through a horse barn! The Lady Skippers used this scenery to their advantage, as it resembled all too well their home course at Goodells Country Park in Goodells, MI.
Leading the Skippers and the entire race field for that matter was Kate Bennett. Bennett finished 1st overall in a personal record time of 20:22.6. Bennett's efforts beat her previous PR by 20 seconds and moves her up on the Skipper's Top Ten List, making her the 6th fastest Skipper in school history. Close behind, Brynn Hurley finished in 5th place overall in a season best time of 20:47.9. Hurley's hard work earned her a spot on the Skipper's Top Ten List as well, making her the 10th fastest Skipper. Rowan Conley again was the third Skipper to cross the finish line in a time of 21:30.1 and placing 7th overall. Julia Rogers ran a time of 21:43.7, placing 8th overall and setting a season best by 3 seconds. Sophomore, Jenna Denver rounded out the scoring runners for the Skippers, placing 17th in a time of 22:47.3. Charlotte O'Brien and Angelina Ross finished in 18th place and 25th place respectively.
The team competes again on Friday, September 26th at the MCCAA Eastern Conference Championship. The meet will be held at Stony Creek Metropark (Baypoint Beach). The gun will go off for the women at 12:00pm, with the men racing earlier at 11:00am.
