Lady Skippers Place 2nd at MCCAA Eastern Conference Championship

Shelby Twp, MI - The Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) Eastern Conference Championship was held on Friday, September 26th at Stony Creek Metro Park. The event was hosted by Macomb Community College. The following awards were presented at the conclusion of the meet, Championship Team, All-Conference Team (top 14), and All-Freshman Team (top 6 freshmen). The Skippers took home the most individual awards of any other team, with 6 in the top 14, earning All-Conference honors, and 4 in the top 6 freshman, earning All-Freshman Team honors.

Going into the meet, the Lady Skippers were predicted to finish 3rd. However, the team decided that just wasn't good enough and came out with a 2nd place finish, only 3 points behind the Macomb Monarchs and 3 points ahead of the Mott Bears. Brynn Hurley set the pace early in the race, leading the team until about mile 2 when she was joined by teammate, Kate Bennett. The duo pushed the pace all the way through the finish. Bennett snagged 3rd in a time of 20:22.3, barely setting a personal record by 0.3 seconds, while Hurley took 4th place with a season best by 24 seconds, clocking a time of 20:23.1. Both Bennett and Hurley earned All-Conference and All-Freshman honors. Rowan Conley placed 10th overall with a time of 21:47.8, earning All-Conference and All-Freshman honors. Julia Rogers and Charlotte O'Brien finished in 11th and 13th place respectively, earning All-Conference and All-Freshman honors as well. This was O'Brien's first time this season scoring for the team. Jenna Denver held on to place 14th overall, walking away with All-Conference honors. Angelina Ross ran a season best by 5 seconds, finishing in 16th place.

"I went into the race feeling pretty good. I've been working on a more positive mindset, and I think that made a huge difference in how I performed. I was happy that I had other runners to compete with, and I am glad that I am starting to see my hard work and miles pay off. I can't wait to see where the season goes, and I am looking forward to future races and the goals I have set for myself." Said SC4 freshman Brynn Hurley.

The team laces up again this Friday, October 3rd at the Ohio Wesleyan University Invitational.
