Port Huron, MI — St. Clair County Community College (SC4) proudly announces the retirement of Athletic Director Dale Vos, whose extraordinary 34-year career has transformed SC4 Athletics and left a lasting legacy in NJCAA sports.
Vos began his SC4 journey in 1991 as men's basketball coach, immediately making history by ending a 68-game losing streak in his first game. He later guided the Skippers to their first NJCAA District Championship, setting the foundation for decades of success.
In 1994, Vos was named Athletic Director. At that time, SC4 sponsored just five sports. Under his leadership, the program grew to 20 sports, creating opportunities for countless student-athletes. He also oversaw the college's only two national championships in school history and helped produce 23 of SC4's 40 All-Americans.
Vos's coaching career was equally impressive. He earned Coach of the Year honors in 2004, 2010, and 2019, was a two-time BCAM Junior College Coach of the Year, achieved over 500 career wins, and was inducted into the BCAM Hall of Fame in 2024.
His contributions have been recognized with numerous honors, including:
- MCCAA Athletic Director of the Year (1997, 2016)
- NACDA Athletic Director of the Year (2006-07)
- NJCAA Mary Ellen Leicht Service Award (2016)
- NJCAA Loyalty Award (2021)
- Norma Dycus Real Sport Award (2009)
Vos is also a member of the SC4 Hall of Fame and the NJCAA Golf Hall of Fame, recognized for his leadership as chair of the NJCAA Golf Committee for more than 20 years.
Beyond athletics, Vos served SC4 in multiple roles, including adjunct professor, head of student government, and director of academic advising, demonstrating his commitment to student success both on and off the court.
Currently, Vos serves as NJCAA Board of Regents Treasurer, NJCAA Region 12 Commissioner, and Chair of the NJCAA Men's Basketball Committee — roles he will continue after retiring from SC4.
