Saginaw, MI - The Skippers wrapped up their indoor campaign in style on February 20 at the SVSU Tune-Up, closing the season with personal bests, record-breaking speed, and momentum rolling into the spring.
Freshman sprint standout Donte Fenderson continued his sensational debut season, blazing to a personal-best 7.20 in the 60 meters to lower his own school record. The sprinting phenom wasn't done there, he doubled back in the 200 meters and turned in a strong 23.28 performance to cap an impressive day on the track.
Right on his heels in the 200 was Bryce Barkowska, who clocked a new personal best of 23.80. Barkowska later returned to his specialty event, the 400 meters, where he powered to a heat win in 53.41, showcasing his strength and closing speed.
As the meet shifted to the middle distances, freshman Luke Meyer continued his breakout season. Meyer delivered another outstanding performance in the 800 meters, dropping to a personal-best 1:58.26. Teammate Jerry Westrick followed suit with a personal best of his own, highlighting the steady progression of the Skippers' 800-meter crew.
Meyer wasn't finished, either. Testing his range, he stepped up to the 3,000 meters and posted yet another personal best, running 9:34. Along the way, he helped pull teammate Evan Jacobs to a lifetime best of 9:42 in a strong display of teamwork and competitive grit.
With a record book update, multiple personal bests, and visible growth across sprints and distance events, SC4 closed out the indoor season with confidence and flair. The Skippers now turn their focus to the outdoor season, set to open March 20 in Indiana, where they'll look to build on the momentum from a successful winter campaign.
