Congratulations, SC4 alumnus Rob Thomson who was named the interim manager of the Philadelphia Phillies on Friday.
In his first weekend as the 56th manager in franchise history, Thomson led the Phillies to a 3-0 sweep of the LA Angels. Thomson is no stranger to the professional baseball scene as this year marks his 38th season in the MLB and fifth season with the Phillies.
Prior to his coaching days, the Corunna, Ontario native was a member of the 1982-1983 Skippers baseball team that was led by Skippers Athletic Hall of Fame coach Dick Groch. He went on to play at the University of Kansas and was a member of the 1984 Canadian Olympic team. Thomson was drafted in the 32nd round in 1985 by the Detroit Tigers. He played four seasons in the Tiger's minor league system before making his way to the MLB as a coach.
Thomson was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019 and has been a part of five world series championships with the New York Yankees.
