PORT HURON, MI- SC4 athletic director Dale Vos announced the hiring of Mike Groulx to be the next women's basketball coach for the Skippers.
The Armada, MI. native returns to SC4 after he previously coached the womens team from 2012-2014 before accepting an assistant coaching position at Eastern Michigan.
He led the 2012-13 SC4 women's basketball team to a school-record 32 wins, securing the Eastern Conference Championship as well as a Michigan Community College Athletic Association (MCCAA) State Championship. The Skippers went on to finish fourth in the NJCAA Division II Championships, while Groulx was named the 2013 Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan (BCAM) Junior College Women's Coach of the Year as well as MCCAA State Coach of the Year and Region 12 District H Coach of the Year.
In the 2013-14 season, SC4 made its third-straight appearance in the NJCAA Division II National Tournament, finishing fourth, while Groulx garnered both MCCAA Coach of the Year and NJCAA District H Coach of the Year honors. The squad set a school record with a 26-game win streak, won its second straight conference title and garnered back-to-back state titles. Six members of the 2013-14 St. Clair County Community College women's basketball team earned all-conference accolades, including Rachel Kehoe who was a MCCAA Honorable Mention All-Conference selection; two student-athletes grabbed all-region honors and two were named to the NJCAA Division II National Tournament All-Tournament team.
As head coach, Groulx sent nine student-athletes onto four-year universities. Additionally, he also coached 15 academic all-league players and one Academic All-American during his tenure with the Skippers.
Prior to being named the head coach of the women's basketball program, Groulx spent six seasons as an assistant coach with the SC4 men's basketball program. The 2009-10 Skippers won the regional championship and placed eighth at the NJCAA National Tournament.
Groulx graduated from St. Clair County Community College in 2005 with an associate of general studies and an associate of arts before going on to earn his Bachelor's degree in multi-disciplinary studies from Siena Heights University in 2011.
