Skippers Athletics is pleased to announce Richard Field as the new head men's basketball coach for St. Clair County Community College. Coach Field accepted the role earlier this month, and is ready to continue to grow the legacy Dale Vos has created.
Field has much playing and coaching experience, having been a collegiate and professional basketball player. He began his career here in Port Huron, Michigan at Port Huron High School. After graduation, Field played college basketball for two years at Mott Community College before gaining a scholarship to Mercyhurst College in Erie, Pennsylvania.
After a successful career and education at Mercyhurst College, Field then headed overseas to play professional basketball for 8 years in Iceland and the Czech Republic. During his time there, he was named team captain and earned many player honors.
Beyond playing, Field has been involved in the coaching side of the game since he graduated college. He spent a few years coaching at the high school level, and when he returned from overseas, he began his college coaching career at SC4 as an assistant coach to Dale Vos. With Field's assistance over the last four years, the Skippers have had two national tournament appearances, one league title, and the team has qualified for the playoffs each year.
Coach Field is excited about his new role. He stated, "I am excited to be the new head men's basketball coach at St. Clair County Community College. Starting my collegiate head coaching career in my hometown is a blessing, and I wouldn't want it any other way."
