Robert “Bob” Tansky has always been a great supporter of extracurricular activities at SC4.
Tansky arrived at Port Huron Junior College in 1966 and served as a business professor for 45 years, positively impacting the lives of thousands of students. He was also the faculty advisor for the college’s award-winning Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) chapter. His DECA teams traveled across the country to represent the college and were consistently awarded as a top chapter in the state and nation.
Without question, his business and economic lectures made a huge impact on students; however, his dedication and support for learning experience outside the classroom, including athletics, were equally powerful in developing students. During his stellar career, Bob could often be seen in the gym or at the ballpark supporting the Skippers.
“While I’ve enjoyed all our teams throughout the years, some of the best memories include the baseball teams of the 1970’s, the women’s basketball teams of the 1990’s, and the men’s basketball teams of the late 2000’s,” Tansky said.
“From my first month as a new employee at SC4 in 1991, Bob Tansky has been a supporter, a mentor, and a friend,” said Director of Athletics Dale Vos. “He’s remained consistent in his approach still today. He has a passion for all things SC4, but most importantly he has been an advocate for our students and their goals and dreams – this of course includes our student-athletes”.
Following his teaching career, Tansky was elected to the SC4 Board of Trustees in 2011 and continues to serve the college today. During his tenure as a trustee, he helped generate support for the purchase and development of the SC4 Fieldhouse, the home of the Skippers volleyball and men’s and women’s basketball teams.
“I’m honored to have been able to teach countless student athletes over four decades, and it has been wonderful to see so many achieve their goals,” Bob added. “Along the way, I’ve made some great friends in the Skipper Athletics community, including hall of famers Dick Groch, Ross Green, and Dale Vos.”
